From early on in the 18th century, ornate developments began to take the chandelier to a new level with various castings of long and curved arms and multiple candles adorning the homes of the growing upper class. Subsequent developments in glassmaking techniques permitted cheaper production of lead crystal, which quickly made it a popular feature to add and leading to the development of the crystal chandelier.
