35 Classic House Design Ideas (Traditional Home Design Photos)

Classic House Design Ideas with a beautiful historic, traditional house style in Marietta GeorgiaThis is one of the most beautiful classic house design ideas with its historic, traditional two storey timber house style from the nineteenth century in restored condition and situated in Marietta Georgia.

Traditional and classic homes can be truly majestic. Usually created by quality focused craftsmen and carpenters with simple honest materials, these building often stand the test of time. Many survive for hundreds of years and look just as good today as they probably did when they were first finished. Homes were traditionally built from wood, stone, and brick and were constructed based on sound building techniques unlike today where everything seemingly has to be meticulously engineered and tested to meet geotechnical earthquake, wind and stability standards.

This gallery shows homes from throughout the modern world, from Europe and the United Kingdom to the Antipodes with New Zealand and Australia, and then across to North America featuring the United States and Canada.

Take a look through this photographic gallery journey and you’ll see some truly magnificent houses that could even called majestic for want of a better term. Some of the houses are quaint and homely and some are gigantic mansions of expanse and spaciousness and some even span the centuries, which is a real statement as to the quality of the construction from bygone eras.

Outdoor Sculptures and Contemporary Garden Art

Outdoor Sculptures. The sculpted elephant trees in the park

These outdoor sculptures are sculpted trees in the shape of elephants in the park and they make a fantastic setting. Everyone loves elephants and so why not turn your boring old bushes into a magic piece of artwork like this?

Garden Art and outdoor sculptures create uniqueness to your garden and also provide some personality or flare that makes your garden or yard area interesting. Whether you are an accomplished artist in your own right and you like to create interesting and unique pieces or you just like to obtain and admire quality one off pieces of art created by others for your garden, nothing will give you garden more zing and pizazz than a noticeable, interesting and attention provoking piece of art.

Styles of artwork for gardens comes in many different designs and materials. Some choose to create smaller items of interest from moulds of either clay, concrete, cement or plaster. Others become a lot more creative and use a mix of different material, bronze, brass, tin, steel, and other metals. Part of the character of a piece of outdoors art is to let it naturally weather, for example, iron rusting to its typical rusty brown color often adds a special character to the piece, copper weathering to its typical greeny, blue oxide coloring and then there are those that chose to use what’s already in the environment and create something from rock, or stone or even from the plants themselves (like the image above).

This is a gallery of 27 interesting and thought provoking pieces of garden art and unique sculptures. Some are publicly displayed and others are from private homes. Hopefully these will inspire you to consider commissioning your own unique piece of garden art for your home, or perhaps even creating one yourself.

Log Cabin Designs And Other Holiday Homes In The Snow

A log cabin in the Idaho mountains covered with snow during a clear Winters dayThis luxurious log cabin is situated in the Idaho mountains. Covered with snow during a clear Winters day, it looks pristine and inviting with its interesting rock fireplace construction.

The log cabin and the log house terminology are often used by the lay person interchangeably, meaning many people confuse the term as being the same thing, but the reality is they generally describe different houses. A log house is typically a house constructed of ‘non milled’ logs and is often (although not always) of considerably more robust construction. A log cabin is a term more often used to describe a much smaller house of somewhat impermanent construction, and also usually less finished or less sophisticated from an architectural perspective than a proper log house.

The log house or log cabin is constructed from long trunks of timber usually pine or spruce. Particularly popular in the Scandinavian countries like Finland and Sweden where there is generally a higher availability of straight tall tree trunks. a log cabin’s uniqueness is in its simplistic construction, often able to be erected in days and usually without the need for nails. Their strength and stability is derived from the stacking of log on top of log and the interlocking ends and corners.

In this gallery, we show a selection of holiday homes and log cabins all covered in the snow. They all provide a sense of relaxation, which can obviously be heightened by relaxing and ‘chilling’ (excuse the pun) by a hot roaring fire on a cool winter’s evening. If you have an interest isn developing or building your own cabin in the wilderness, check out this book

32 Amazing English Gardens & Gardening Ideas

English Gardens & Gardening Ideas with a classic English rear yard with trees, shrubs and steps set into the lawnThis is an image of a stunning English rear yard with trees, shrubs and steps set into the well trimmed lawn. A table and chairs looks out onto the landscape and must bewilder at the beauty.

English gardens are a part of England’s heritage and something that has taken often centuries to develop. It’s no surprise then that many people admire the look of a classic English garden and often seek out ideas as to how they can replicate the look for their own homes. Easier said than done, though due primarily to the unique English climate and the need to mix and match the right plants that will thrive in that very environment.

The first essential requirement for your English garden is of course the grass or lawn. This is one of the ‘foundations’ of the English garden look. It must also receive regular maintenance and attention so as to retain its lush greenness and its well manicured look. Next you have the flowers that will adorn the garden area. Typical for most English gardens are the perennial flowers like Aquilegia, Chrysanthemum,Asters, Daisies and various types of Lavender. For the annuals, the most commonly used are Begonias, Impatiens, Petunias and Dianthus. However, its imperative when choosing the flowers to consider the local climate and make a decision to include or not include various flowers depending on whether or not they have the hardiness to survive the weather extremes.

Then you need to consider the trees and shrubs that will set the scene for the garden and provide a framing to the whole setting. Truth is, you may need to select these first as they will take considerably longer to become established than other features in your garden. One all the plants have been chosen, you then need to look to other interesting features for the garden, such as artwork, pathways, ponds, lakes and foot bridges (if you have enough land). This gallery will give you sone great gardening ideas to create and establish your own English heritage in your own back yard. We know you’ll have lots of fun establishing it and tending to it over the years.

23 Outdoor Kitchen Ideas, BBQ, Grill & Entertainment Area Designs

Outdoor Kitchen Ideas

The above image is of an amazing green night lighting over a covered outdoor barbecue cooking kitchen area provides an almost copper color look and is a great example of these fantastic outdoor kitchen ideas.

An outdoor entertaining area can be a lot of different things, and it all depend on the home owner as to what they prefer or what they’re happy with. To some, an outdoor dining table and several chairs with a nearby BBQ will suffice, whereas others like to go that next step further and have a decent sized BBQ with multiple burners and its own food preparation area.

Others prefer an even grander outdoors area and choose to make an extension of their home by having a living room or some other relaxing room opening out onto expansive decking areas with a covered area that is like a second kitchen away from the main kitchen. These are often full equipped down to fridges, decent bench preparation space and even wash up sinks.

Check out this gallery of outdoor Kitchen, BBQ, grill & entertainment area designs for ideas for your outdoor area. There are really no limits to what you can create, but hopefully this image gallery will give you some great ideas.
