Playhouses and Huts in The Trees

playhouses and huts in the trees. Beautiful well constructed tree house, built around the tree.

Do you remember back as a kid when you hassled your Dad to build you a tree house? Maybe you were a little more pro-active and took it upon yourself to find some old scrap building materials and built one yourself. The art of building a tree house (if your lucky enough to have a tree in your back yard that is big enough to take a tree house) is something that kids should put their hands to during their growing years.

They create a sense of accomplishment (and as long as all the safety aspects are followed, and a supervising eye from a parent) for the child if they are able to pretty much build it themselves. Then when it comes to using it, there is often a pride of ownership that is distinctly different to their bedroom.

I remember myself building a tree hut in my backyard when I was about twelve, and being so proud of it, I wanted to decorate it with all sorts, curtains, carpet, and even giving it a lick of paint. It was around that time I came to realize just how expensive a lot of decor and decorating items were. The carpet was definitely not an affordable option (even though in retrospect, a small cheap mat may have done the job for the space we were talking about), the curtains were shortlived, but I did manage to scrounge some old unused paint from my Dad’s garage.

A home backyard tree house will build character for your child and provide them with a feeling of having somewhere to escape to when and if they need some alone time.  So if your child asks you to let them build one, support them and encourage them, but based on my experiences I would strongly suggest that you work with them and plan a few things first, like access, water proofing and roofing to name a few important ones.

29 Contemporary Garden Studios and Outdoor Garden Rooms

Outdoor Garden Rooms -Large elegant gazebo room with sea vista, manicured lawn and blue sky background

This is a large stunningly elegant example of a gazebo outdoor room positioned perfectly on a manicured lawn, with expansive sea vista, tables and chairs and blue sky background.

Having a garden room for chilling out or relaxing is quite different to having a garden shed, which is where most people tend to store their gardening tools and equipments. A garden room often doubles up as an outdoors home office space, a sleep-out (for overnight guests, or perhaps those unbearable teenagers) a hobby room, a place to sit and read in peace and quiet, or just a universal room for whatever purpose you decide.

A garden shed though is often a lot more rugged (and perhaps less cared for) than a garden room. With a shed, we don’t usually mind a few cobwebs here and there, or perhaps if the roof leaks a little, it doesn’t matter too much, whereas a garden room is usually thought of as a detached extension of your home, and so features like cobwebs and roof leaks are a distinct no-no.

In this gallery of 29 examples of garden rooms, you’ll find small cottages, gazebos, and even what look like sheds at first glance, and for all intents and purposes, a garden shed and a garden room can be the same building, it’s just that they are used for different purposes. We hope you enjoy this page and that it provides some inspiration for you to create and build your own backyard garden room.

Horseback Riding Ranch, Horse Stables, Barns and Facilities

Amazing moonrise shining over a large horse farm

To many people, horses are a bit of a mystery. Horseback riding ranches are plentiful in many countries, as are horse stables, barns and the equestrian industry in general. The thing is, horses are never usually homed within the City and so to be involved with horses, one needs to usually either live, or travel to the rural areas where often large tracts of land are fenced off using traditional post and rail fencing techniques to keep any number of horses homed, fed and in their natural environment.

The racing industry, and the equestrian industry both provide competitive events for horse and rider alike, and yet to many people the keeping, feeding, housing, stabling, and even the riding aspect of having horses remains a mystery. In this gallery, we have chosen a number of images to hopefully demystify some of the equestrian aspects that relate to keeping and housing the horses.

You will see barns and stables, horse arenas where dressage training and competition often takes place, tack rooms where riders store their gear, like saddles, bits and bridles, along with many other things. We’ll even show you some of the gear that riders use. You will also see the extensive fencing required for a horse ranch that also requires a significant investment to instal, (but always makes an equestrian property look really beautiful) so hopefully by the end of this page, you’ll perhaps understand that having and riding a horse needn’t be a ‘big unknown’ and perhaps you may even decide to give horse riding a try yourself.

A dressage test is a competition between riders and horses whereby they all compete within a defined arena area and over a pre-determined course within that arena. They are required to undertake specific actions and manoeuvres and are judged and awarded points based on how well the rider and the horse performed. The rider with the highest points wins the competition.

Dressage as a discipline is one of the three components that make up an eventing competition, the other two being showjumping, (where horse and rider navigate a course of jumps and try to avoid knocking down rails) and cross country where horse and rider cover a long distance with challenging jumps, water obstacles, etc and need to complete the course within a predetermined optimum time.

They often reside outside in the fields where they feed themselves regularly on the grass. With exposure to various weather elements, hot, cold, rain, snow, etc, there needs to be some considerable care taken during the winter to ensure the horses are adequately covered with appropriately graded rugs in order to keep them warm and dry, and then in the summer, keeping them covered in breathable lightweight covers helps keep the flies off them

19 Small Quaint Outdoor Gardening Sheds

Small Quaint Outdoor Gardening Sheds situated amidst dense trees with a relaxing chair and floral highlightsThe above little building is a quaint green garden shed situated amidst dense trees with a relaxing chair and floral highlights. The faded green paint pays homage to what has probably been many years of loyal service that this shed has provided its owner.

Garden sheds are a part of your property where for the most part, you can let your hair down and make them whatever you want them to be. There is really no such thing as a ‘designer’, or ‘contemporary’ or ‘minimalist’ garden shed. You can throw caution to the wind and practically create your own garden shed from whatever you have, into a building that can be anything you want. (Provided you keep all the authorities happy of course)

A garden shed has a simple purpose in life and that is usually to be a dry (not leaking) small outhouse where you can store the essential outdoor tools, and equipment, like lawn mower, gardening tools and barrows, where you try germinating your seeds before you plant them, and so on. There are no limits of potential uses for the good old garden shed.

The gallery of garden sheds you’ll find here are a selection of all types, from old to new, from humble and almost falling down to the modern and well equipped. Hopefully, you’ll gain some insight into ideas for your own home. Pick and choose what you like and don’t like, there’s no judgement here, that’s why we do it, to pass on new (and old) ideas to you for the betterment of your own home.

23 Outdoor Kitchen Ideas, BBQ, Grill & Entertainment Area Designs

Outdoor Kitchen Ideas

The above image is of an amazing green night lighting over a covered outdoor barbecue cooking kitchen area provides an almost copper color look and is a great example of these fantastic outdoor kitchen ideas.

An outdoor entertaining area can be a lot of different things, and it all depend on the home owner as to what they prefer or what they’re happy with. To some, an outdoor dining table and several chairs with a nearby BBQ will suffice, whereas others like to go that next step further and have a decent sized BBQ with multiple burners and its own food preparation area.

Others prefer an even grander outdoors area and choose to make an extension of their home by having a living room or some other relaxing room opening out onto expansive decking areas with a covered area that is like a second kitchen away from the main kitchen. These are often full equipped down to fridges, decent bench preparation space and even wash up sinks.

Check out this gallery of outdoor Kitchen, BBQ, grill & entertainment area designs for ideas for your outdoor area. There are really no limits to what you can create, but hopefully this image gallery will give you some great ideas.
